Every day brings new medical knowledge and new ways to manage certain medical condition. It is therefore difficult for any one physician to be aware of all the latest information related to such a medical condition. For serious medical conditions it is now increasingly common for patients, their physicians, or third parties e.g., insurance companies, to seek further medical advice about that health condition and its management. A medical advisory panel comprises of experts/specialists in the different branches of medicine that work together to provide the best course of treatment for a patient.
When we receive a request to give second medical opinion on a medical case, we assemble a team of medical experts to review that case and its current management. The reviewing team may
(i) endorse the current management
(ii) recommend a different management or
(iii) request additional tests before making a recommendation.
The medical expert team does not take over treatment from the primary physician.
